Is the school run by British nationals?
Yes, Elizabeth Moir School is the only international school in Sri Lanka to be owned and run by British nationals.
How secure is the school for my child?
Very. Both the Junior and Senior Schools have gates which are supervised
by security guards.
What time does school start?
The Junior and Senior Schools start at 8.10am and 8.20am respectively.

When does the school year start and how many terms are there?

Is there an entrance test?
From KG1 upwards, all students take a written entrance test. For more details on the admissions procedure, please click here. Reception and Playgroup children are assessed by interview.
Do you offer special needs education?
Both sections of the school provide excellent support systems for students who need additional attention.
Senior School
Will my child have his/her own locker?
Yes. All students at the Senior School have their own locker to keep their
books and belongings in.
What do students do about food and drinks?
Hot lunches are provided by the new Tuckshop which was opened in January 2009. It offers a variety of healthy meals and snacks along with fresh fruit juices and yoghurt.
How do I make an appointment to speak to a member of staff?
If a parent or guardian wishes to speak to a particular member of school, they should make an appointment at Reception.
How will my child manage to organise all his/her commitments?
Each student is given an almanac at the beginning of each year, a small book which includes a diary, timetable and the school rules. Students are encouraged to use the almanac for writing down homework assignments and they are regularly checked by form teachers.
Junior School
At what age do subjects like IT and Science begin?
IT lessons begin in Reception and Science in Junior 1.
In what class does formal teaching of numbers and letters begin?
Reception.
In what classes do Extra Curricular activities like swimming and art start?
Art classes begin in Reception and swimming classes in KG 1. Music & Movement, Drama and PE classes also start in Reception.
What are the class sizes?
These vary from class to class. Reception currently has 12 students and the largest class has 22.
Do the younger classes have more than one teacher?
Yes, all classes up to and including Junior 1 have 2 teachers. |
