Devika Menon (India)
I joined the school in Junior Five and was initially quite worried about fitting in as I had just arrived from India. However, I soon felt part of the school. I loved the Junior School, but the transition to the Senior School in Form 1 was not an issue at all, as we had been prepared well for it. We also felt that the older students were always very supportive of us, be it when we visited the Senior School for assemblies or when they clapped and cheered at our Junior School productions.
I think the friendliness and approachability of the teachers is what best defines this school. I have never had a situation when I did not think I could seek the support of Mrs Moir, all members of staff and my fellow students. This is a warm and personal community in which every student is recognised and given the encouragement to shine and to enjoy school without sacrificing discipline standards. As I am just about to head off to university, I am able to reflect on the best years of my life but, as I have heard from past students, the support of the school does not end once you have received your leaving certificate. This is a very comforting thought as we all prepare for the new challenges ahead of us.
Devika was Head Prefect in 2006 / 2007. In 2005, she obtained 8 A grades at O Level, receiving an award from Edexcel for getting the fourth highest mark in the world in English Literature. She went on to get 4 A grades at A Level in June 2007. Devika is currently studying Economics at LSE.

Pyung Kang Son (Korea)
I arrived from Korea in 2005 knowing only a little English. I was determined to integrate with students in my class but was a little bit shy. If you told me on my first day that I would one day be in the final of a singing competition – singing in English – I would have laughed at you! I can study the subjects I want here and the teachers have always made extra time to assist me. I have learnt lots of new skills and look forward to my last year at school.
Pyung Kang was the Armstrong House Captain for the 2006/2007 academic year and reached the final of the school’s annual singing competition, Moir Idol. Pyung Kang completed Advanced Levels’ in August 2008 and obtained 3 A grades and one B grade. She plans to go on to one of the Ivy League Colleges in the USA.

Rajinda Jayawardena (Sri Lanka)
I arrived at the Junior School in KG2 and time has gone very quickly. Although I am looking forward to entering the Senior School, I have very happy memories of my time here because it is such a friendly place. My first memory is of UN Day when I wore a sarong the entire day and ate lots of great food from around the world. It was brilliant! I have enjoyed all the activities, particularly the drama. Playing Whizzbo in Whizzbo, the Helpful Skweekabee was definitely a highlight.
Rajinda was Head Prefect of the Junior School for the 2006/2007 academic year and joined Form 1 in August 2007.

Rehana Mohamed (Sri Lanka)
I first met Mrs. Moir because my brother was due to join the school in the Fifth Form. Although I had already completed my first year of A Levels in another school, I had a gut feeling there and then that I had to move to this new school. Mrs. Moir left such an impression with me and really helped re-focus my enthusiasm for education and applying to universities. It was the best move I ever made.
The school was small, friendly and we all had a lot of individual attention, advice and support from the teachers. Mrs Moir’s door was always open.
Although A-Levels were my main focus, there was still a great deal to keep us busy and happy around the school like drama and school trips. I was only at Elizabeth Moir School for a short while but it made a world of difference to my future. I am still very much in touch with past students and look forward to visiting the school whenever possible.
Rehana finished her A Levels at Elizabeth Moir School in 1997 and graduated from Cambridge University in 2000. She currently works for the British Government.

The two years that I spent at school seem like a long time. I just fitted right in, as if I had been here the whole time. Yes, it is a small school compared to all the others but I think that this is one of the school's best features. You know practically everyone in school and it is great that you can make close friends with everyone, not just the members of your own class. This helps to make your world seem just a bit smaller and more comfortable.
I joined the school at the beginning of my Lower 6th year and the students were more than helpful. By a week or so I did not feel 'new' or left out. Throughout my time here, I never felt reluctant to approach my teachers with any problem that I might have at school. They made it more than clear that they are not here just to teach you but to guide you as well and we all knew that we could rely on them regardless of the problem. Elizabeth Moir School provides lots of opportunities and activities for us students. There is the Colombo Model United Nations (CO-MUN), the School Quiz, lots of sport and much more. Despite the strong academic focus in school, I found that I was encouraged to participate in most of these activities and this helped me to learn how to balance my time accordingly, which I know is going to help me a lot, especially in university.

When I first got here in 2008 I was quite nervous because it was my first time in a new country but I settled in really quickly because of the family atmosphere in school. The school is cosy and clean and I have made loads of friends very quickly. You get to know everyone within days! The teachers are friendly and always want to help out, which means that the lessons are fun and entertaining. There are plenty of extra-curricular activities to keep me busy, such as drama, and sports like basketball or cricket. I took part in the school play 'Animal Farm' and enjoyed it thoroughly. The students are well behaved and kind, they always respect each other whatever their race or nationality. I particularly enjoy the food at the canteen which is very tasty and there is always a wide selection. There are fun school and class trips at the beginning and the end of the year, which are a great chance to relax and unwind. I know that this school will definitely help me to get good grades in my exams.
