Assemblies are an integral part of school life, an ideal occasion for the entire school to learn, laugh and be together. As well as providing an excellent opportunity to make important announcements, presentations and to hear distinguished speakers, assemblies have proved to be a springboard for the social development of so many students.
Throughout the Junior and Senior Schools, all students are encouraged to participate in various assemblies and it is not long before unenthusiastic actors are sad to leave the stage! With such an encouraging audience, all sincere efforts are rewarded with generous applause and a large slice of self-confidence. Indeed, many of the school’s best performers (in music and drama) have cut their teeth during assemblies before dazzling Colombo and beyond on larger stages.
The same could be said for our public speakers; a significant number of those who have distinguished themselves at the annual Model United Nations conference first spoke publicly during an inter-house debating competition or when addressing the school in a Current Affairs presentation, both held during Assembly.
